The latest edition of the World Cooperative Monitor will be unveiled during a dedicated webinar on 1 December.
In its 11th edition, the Monitor collects robust economic, organisational, and social data about cooperatives worldwide. It is produced by the ICA with the scientific and technical support of the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse).
This year’s edition will be based on data collected in 2020. In addition to economic and employment data of the world’s top 300 cooperatives and mutuals, the 2022 edition will also feature a section on digitalisation in relation to the cooperative identity.
The launch webinar will not only explore the main findings of the report but also focus on how member democratic control (second cooperative principle) and consequent membership engagement can be enhanced through the use of digital tools.
The report presents rankings based on turnover as well as the ratio of turnover over gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. The 2021 edition of the Monitor showed that the world’s 300 largest cooperatives had a combined turnover of US$2.18tn in 2019, an increase from US$2.14tn in 2018.
It bears recall that IFFCO had been ranked Number 1 Cooperative among top 300 cooperatives in the world, withholding its position from last year. The ranking was based on the ratio of turnover over gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. IFFCO had also stepped up to 60th Position in overall Turnover ranking from 65th position in last financial year.
Besides IFFCO, three other Co-ops from India including Amul (GCMMF), Kribhco, and ace labour co-op ULCCs from Kozhikode made India proud last year.
The year report will be the 11th annual one and will explore the economic and social impact of the largest cooperatives and mutual worldwide, providing a ranking of the Top 300, sector rankings, and an analysis of responses to the current global challenges.
