According to an official source, Haryana state federation of cooperative sugar mills has paid just shy of hundred percent of the payment due to farmers for sugarcane in 2012-13.
The amount paid has been Rs.786.44 out of a total of Rs.796.49. The total amount of sugarcane procured had been 292.73 lakh qintals, the source added.
The source claimed Haryana pays the highest rates to sugarcane farmers. The state advisory price [Sap] has risen to Rs.159 per quintal over the last years, the source mentioned.
The source stated that the state govt. has given financial help to the cooperative sugar mills to the tune of Rs.100 crore to promote a comprehensive technological development of the sugar mills.
Additionally, power generation through modernization of sugar mills is also under consideration, the source informed.
