The Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, (MSC) the apex bank of the cooperative sector has decided to pitch in with an offer of more than a thousand crore rupees to about 8 cooperative sugar factories in Kolhapur and Sangli districts in the state.
Sources say, the remaining sugar producing units would get financial help from district cooperative and other banks. Sources add, there is a slight drop in the financial assistance being made available now compared to the last year as there is a marked decline in the sugar prices in the international market.
A source privy to the MSC’s prospective financial offers is quoted as claiming the apex cooperative bank would help the cooperative sugar factories in categories such as sugarcane billing, production cost and recovery.
The bank would give Rs. 2,280 per tonne to the cooperative sugar units. However, the entire financial assistance to be given would depend on the crushing capacity of the units, their production of sugar and the market prices of sugar, the source adds.
