Mulayum Singh government if voted to power will make the cooperative boards last for five years. This was the statement of Chy Shish Pal Singh,Chairman Sahkari Ganna Samiti in an exclusive interview given to Indiancooperative.com. Mr Shishpal said that for cooperative movement to be successful it is important that elected leaders complete their term. Accusing Mayawati of throttling cooperatives, he said that she runs cooperative as her pocket borough. Reducing the term of cooperative boards she has got rid of elected members to accommodate her puppets, lamented Shishpal.
Talking of Sahkari Ganna samiti he said that elected board has no power. Neither on cheques nor on balance sheet, board member’s signature is required. The Board cannot suspend or remove an employee. It exists only in name. The Cane Union Federation is practically defunct with the Cane Commissioner taking all the decisions.
He assured that if Samajvadi Party comes to power it will do away with post of Administrator. Notice to election would be given 120 days in advance and election will take place within 40 days, added Shishpal. The success of cooperative movement depends on the democratic set up and here the role of State government plays an important role. Unfortunately most of the state governments treat cooperatives as their pocket borough and meddle so much with the cooperative structures that cooperatives become lame duck. The Chief Minister of Utter Pradesh figures prominently in this list, he lamented.
Talking about sugarcane he hopes that there would be bumper crop this year as more and more farmers have cultivated it given its high return from it last year. The area under cultivation has also increased by 19 per cent this year compared to last year in Utter Pradesh. It should be known that UP tops the list as the highest producer of sugar canes .Assembly election being not far off Mr Shish Pal feels that Mayawati should announce good rates for sugarcanes this year.
