Sugar scenario looks optimistic with having 45.84 lakh tonnes of sugar produced till 15th December 2011 as compared to 38.63 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of sugar season 2010-11,according to a ISMA press note.
As against 445 mills which were operational on 15th December 2010, 452 mills have started operations as on 15th December 2011. Even though the mills started their crushing slightly late this year especially in Maharasthra, the production this year has registered an overall jump of 18.7% percent.
Uttar Pradesh has registered a significant jump in sugar production of 12.85 lakh tonnes till 15th December, 2011 as compared to 8.55 lakh tonnes for the corresponding month last year.
Maharashtra production till 15th December 2011 is 17.50 lakh tonnes, higher by 1.25 lakh tonnes as compared to 16.25 lakh tonnes produced till 15th December last year. Similarly, production in Karnataka during the same period is also higher at 8.25 lakh tonnes as compared to 7.35 lakh tonnes last year.
