The sugar mill will be costing Rs 400 crore and the final clearance is a matter of time now. The precise location of the proposed mill is Sathiaon in Azamgarh. The proposal was moved formally by Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mill Federation.
This sugar mill will be the first one after a gap of about 24 years. The last sugar mill set up in cooperative sector in the state was in 1990 at Najibabad in Bijnore.
Uttar Pradesh has about 28 sugar mills, 23 of which are in operation, under the cooperative sector in the state.
The proposed sugar mill will also have a distillery unit and co-generation power plant. The land at the closed mill has been found sufficient for setting up a new sugar mill.
The proposed mill will have crushing capacity of at least 35,000 quintal per day.
