The President of National Cooperative Union of India Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav lamented the plight of state cooperative unions in the country and exhorted the government to do something. He was addressing the Chairmen of state cooperative unions at NCUI in N Delhi.
“All surveys carried so far and views of majority of experts underline the important role state cooperative unions are supposed to play in furthering the cooperative movement. But they themselves are victim of government apathy leaving the possibility of little initiative from them”, said Chandra Pal.
Many a times they have to choose between carrying forward a project or paying salaries to their staff. They do not have any business of their own and solely depend on government aid. We plan big and aim big but these come a cropper in the face of their financial inabilities, the President lamented.
The provision of sharing one percent profit with them was also a non starter. Training which is so crucial for the expansion of cooperative movement fails to take off at regional level due to their helplessness, Chandra Pal added.
Dr Yadav congratulated the participants who have turned up in large number this year. Last time there were only ten of you but this time everybody except those from a few states have come. I congratulate you for your enthusiasm, he said.
Chairmen and Managing Directors from various states such as Assam,Arunachal, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal, Bihar, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and many more had come to participate in the annual meeting at NCUI in Delhi. A buoyed up V P Singh suggested half-yearly gathering to the thunderous applause of the participants.
