Specter of drought makes NCUI Prez anxious

President of National Union Cooperative of India Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav has expressed concern over a deficient monsoon looming. Weather scientists have forecast a drought for this year consecutively.

Talking to Indian Cooperative, Mr Yadav who was preparing to go to attend the ICA (A-P) meeting in Singapore said “already farmers are a distressed lot and this ominous prediction has only deepened our anxiety.”

Mr Yadav has always championed the cause of farmers in parliament and described them as worse off than MANREGA labourers. He had called upon the government to act swift and solid.

Talking of NCUI’s role in mitigating the sufferings of farmers he said there is not much in the given situation that we can do but our support or the data on distressed farmers the NCUI maintains would be made available to the govt. “We are ready to cooperate with the govt to any extent”, he added.

Farmers form the backbone of both our economy and population and helping them at this critical moment should be the high priority of the govt and the cooperative institutions, he remarked.
