NCUI dilly-dallying on the issue of pension arrears to its retired staff has finally ended with the apex cooperative organization implementing Delhi High Court’s order and escaping contempt.
The court has in its February order asked NCUI to make payment in three installments- 50% by 31st March, 25% by 31 May and the remaining 25% by September 30.
But the NCUI’s Governing Council which met in March decided to file an appeal expressing its inability to pay as the model code of conduct was in force. The appeal was dismissed in the last week of March.
A harassed Chief Executive Dr Dinesh is said to have rushed to Jhansi to meet the NCUI’s President Chandra Pal Singh to apprise him of the emergent situation. Left with no option, NCUI released money in the first week of April. Readers would recall that Mr Yadav is contesting the Jhansi Lok Sabha seat.
About 405 pensioners have heaved a sigh of relief as they are able to get arrears of DA and 6th Pay Commission differences since the year 2009. NCUI will have to bear a burden of Rs 3.61 crore on this account.
D P Neb, President of the Pensioner Association told Indian Cooperative that problems have been resolved as of now. “We would let you know should a crisis emerge”, he added.
