The apex national body of cooperatives NCUI has given a major push to popularizing cooperatives in the schools by joining hands with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. It signed a MOU last week with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan at the latter’s premises in Delhi. The MOU aims at popularizing cooperative model of education in the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools located in the country.

Dr Dinesh, Chief Executive, NCUI, NCUI officials, and KVS Additional Commissioner[ Admn]-Mr G.K. Srivastava, and Shri U.N Khaware, Additional Commissioner[ Academics] were present on the occasion along with other KVS officials.

As a pilot project, NCUI and KVS have agreed to collaborate to popularise cooperative model of education amongst 100 KVS schools located at, or nearby Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Guwahati.

Initially, training programmes for the faculty members of KVS schools will be organised, thereafter all the identified schools will organise 5 sensitisation programmes for their school children of 10th-12th standard, read a press release sent by the NCUI.

KVS will motivate the students to take up project work on cooperatives for 10th-12th standard, for which NCUI will provide technical/academic guidance. NCUI will also help KVS schools to set up up a few mock cooperatives for the students so that they are aware of the practical benefits of working in cooperatives, it read.

“There was unanimity amongst both NCUI and KVS officials that popularising cooperative model amongst the schools in the rural and semi-urban areas of the country is very important so that school children think of setting up cooperatives as an entrepreneurial activity for self-employment”, said Dr Dinesh Chief Executive to Indian Cooperative later.
