The scrutiny of nominations done by the RO of NCUI elections has cleared the names of a few as uncontested winners while dashing the hopes of some who nursed the ambition of getting a foothold to the apex co-op body in the country.
By the stroke of luck Satya Narayan Sharma of Chhattisgarh State Co-op turned out to be a winner for a seat, he had lost all hopes. Giving weightage to Chief Executive letter of Odisha State Co-op Union, RO decided to disqualify the nomination of Hemant Nayak. Nayak, a BJD member had the support of Sahakar Bharati and was all set to enter the GC with the help of MP vote.
Another candidate on which luck smiled boldly Friday evening was Mudit Verma. Verma was being challenged by SP leader and member of sugar federation Chandrasekhar Singh. Singh’s papers were rejected as the same proposer and seconder used their names in Verma’s candidature too. Luckily for Verma, he had an additional paper which got him through. In the voting also, Verma had a clear edge as told in these columns earlier.
Though Jeena Potsangbam from Manipur is the only
candidate in the list of Group 8, her results are subject to the disposal of a writ petition filed against her by the state co-op union Chairman. Manipur High Court had passed an order asking NCUI to stay declaration of results for the Manipur delegate till a writ-petition filed in its
court is disposed of.
The scrutiny reveals the contests in four constituencies now. They are Multistate,
Labour, and in two states union–Bihar-WB -Sikkim and Maharashtra-Goa. Some of the top leaders whose fate is to be decided in the voting of 23rd November include Jyotindra Mehta, Sanjeev Kushalkar, Pramod Singh, Vishal Singh, S R Satishchandra, Ashok Dabas, Swarn Kamal Saha and some others.
The toughest of the contests is however reserved for the multistate cooperatives where Mehta and Pramod have locked horns. While SR Satishchandra will withdraw in all likelihood, Mehta’s reputation and clout may make it tough for Pramod this time.round. Being on the board as the government nominee in the NCUI in the last term, Mehta is admired even by his political opponents as suave and sweet. How much this will translate into votes is to be seen.
