The induction of two top men in NCUI is making a difference to the apex body of co-ops in the country. To begin with, Chairman Dileep Sanghani and Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan have been successful in getting the pending funds released from the Ministry, no mean feat.
“Yes, the fund has come and it has eased us (NCUI) on many fronts”, said Mahajan talking to this correspondent at the NCUI headquarters last week. Mahajan informed that about Rs 14 crore has come which includes the fund for the current year as well as the remaining dues from the last year.
It bears recall that NCUI has submitted a budget of about Rs 11 crore for the year 2020-21 and about three crore rupees were pending from the last year (19-20). “All dues have been cleared” said a relieved Mahajan who himself had lobbied hard for the assignment.
Mahajan’s efforts got a boost when the high-profile NCUI President Dileep Sanghani raised the issue directly before the state union minister Parshottam Rupala and later with his PS K K Ravindran, sources add.
Sources added that NCUI’s CE Sudhir Mahajan sat with Ravindran in his office for getting the formalities of fund-release completed. His “IAS tag” indeed helped us, said an NCUI official who has been a part of the erstwhile team, active in the fund-release process.
Ever since Mahajan joined, he has been grappling with the existing dilly dallying work culture of NCUI office at the one hand and the so-called Ministry’s indifference to the apex body on the other. But Mahajan has a different opinion on the Ministry’s cooperation. He said “I have only visited the ministry twice since I joined and found everyone very supporting. I have met everyone down the line from the JS to other officials”.
Now with the fund in the NCUI kitty, Mahajan nurses ambition to effect a complete overhaul of the NCUI headquarters. If the new Chief Executive has his way, the apex body would take birth in a new avatar sooner than later. From a Corporate like swanky look to everything-on-the dashboard culture, Mahajan is working on a host of issues to achieve this.
Motivating employees and creating a feel-good factor when they enter the NCUI headquarters is the top of the Chief Executive’s agenda. “We are going to revamp the entire floor where NCUI is located today, he said adding an architect has already been asked to give a presentation and a meeting is likely with him next week”, he stated.
Corporate and glassy look for the entire floor would also lead to optimum utilization of the space. “NCUI office is located on the first floor of the building and there is no order in how different cabins are located”, stated the CE. Different departments located in haphazard manner will now be systematic and we look forward to a complete transformation of the office, underlined Mahajan.
Mahajan also shared his vision on NCUI and on the co-op movement. He shared his thoughts on Field Projects, women co-operatives, use of technology in co-op functioning and many other things. Stay tuned to www.indiancooperative.com to know about them sooner than later.
