Moving in tandem with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment for ecological balance at global platform, the apex body of co-ops in the country NCUI has also moved ahead and signed an MoU with an environment body to safeguard the global climate.
NCUI signed an MOU with Rainmatter Foundation on Monday for documentation of success stories in sustainable farming practices and establishing a Cell for Ecological Wealth and Localized Economies at national level.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dileep Sanghani, President, NCUI, Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI, Sameer Shisodia, CEO, Rainmatter Foundation.
The collaboration will help NCUI in devising strategies for building capacities of cooperatives and track more ecologically resilient approaches for promoting the use of local biodiversity.
Rainmatter Foundation will support NCUI in identifying best practices in agriculture, ecology and other sectors with a special focus on local consumption and ecological wealth.
In another significant development, the senior experts of German Development Cooperation met Dileep Sanghani, President, NCUI and Dr Sudhir Mahanjan, Chief Executive, NCUI to hand over letter of support for building capacities of cooperatives and organizing consultation workshops for promoting cooperatives at state and national level.
In his speech PM Modi said “In midst of this global summit, I want to place five elixirs from India to overcome this challenge (of climate change).
First, India will increase its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 giga watt by 2030. Second, India will fulfil 50 per cent of its energy requirements from renewable energy sources by 2030.
Third, between now and 2030, India will reduce its total projected carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes. Fourth, by 2030, India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 45 per cent. Fifth, India will achieve the target of net zero by 2070.”
