“The iconic NCUI Hostel at its headquarters in Delhi will undergo a complete facelift”, informed its President Dileep Sanghani soon after seeking a budgetary clearance for it in a Cooperative Education Fund Committee meeting on Tuesday.
The first Education Fund Committee meeting held under the presidency of Dileep Sanghani, has passed the proposal as well as the budget for a brand new swanky NUCI hostel for co-operators visiting Delhi from across the country.
The crucial meeting was held on Tuesday through Zoom and besides Sanghani, all other committee members including the ministry representative, Vamnicom Director, IFFCO and SVC officials attended the meeting.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Sanghani said the present building of NCUI is dilapidated and there is an urgent need to revamp the structure with modern facilities and with greater capacity. There are surveys conducted by NCUI which have found the building to be no longer safe, said Sanghani.
The new building will have seven stories and a minimum of 100 rooms. “The existing NCUI Hostel which was built about 50 years ago has 42 rooms when the population of India was only 40 crore. Now we are more than 130 crore with 30% population being part of the cooperative movement. We need more rooms with modern facilities”, explained Sanghani giving the rationale behind the decision.
The Education Fund Committee, which met after a long delay due to Corona, has passed a budget of Rs 15.5 crore for the building. “Our mind is clear, we will give the job to an agency which can deliver us according to our needs in the given budget. Planning and architecture of the building would be done by the agency hired for the purpose”, said Sanghani hinting at the NCUI’s attempts to reduce the cost involved in planning and architecture.
Explaining the required steps, the NCUI President said that first of all the approval of the concerned govt agency would be sought and later advt would be put out in newspapers. Following the laid down procedures, we hope to select a competent agency to do the job, he underlined.
It bears recall that the tenure of the Cooperative Education Fund Committee is already over but due to the impending Coronavirus, a new Committee is yet to take shape. “NCUI files to constitute a new Committee are already with the ministry for 2-3 months”, informed a senior NCUI official.
Cooperative Education Fund Committee is a seven-member body in which President of NCUI, DG of NCCT, head of Vaikunth Mehta are members from the apex body. There are two Multi State Cooperative Societies in CEF – IFFCO and SVC Bank. The other two members are government nominees- Central Registrar and Financial Advisor.
NCUI President Sanghani also discussed several new ideas related to the growth of NCUI. He is bristling with several ideas to make NCUI a talking point not only in India but also in the world. Stay glued to www.indiancooperative.com to keep abreast of the happenings at the apex body.
