The Governing Council of apex co-op body NCUI, which met at its headquarters on Tuesday resolved to continue with the services of current Chief Executive N Satyanarayan till a suitable candidate is found.
Satyanarayan, whose tenure is ending on 31st January will continue in his job for the time-being. Since the process of selecting a Chief Executive is rather long and since the Selection Committee has not made much headway in the matter so far, insiders say Satyanarayan would continue at least for one year.
Detailing the proceedings of the GC meeting, one of the Board members told Indian Cooperative that the agenda of CE extension was placed in the Board by the NCUI President Dileep Sanghani.
The Ex-President Dr Chandra Pal Singh was the first to propose that Satyanarayan should be continued till a suitable candidate is found. Majority of Board members including Pramod Singh, Mudit Verma and others seconded Chandra Pal. There were others such as Bijender Singh who supported the idea by remaining silent.
When Sanghani wanted to know the time-line for CE’s continuation, members said “no deadline” as the process of appointing a new officer is yet to gain speed.
The news of CE’s extension spread like wildfire in the NCUI corridors and staff-members began to greet each other. A simple man to the core, CE had several staff members praying for his continuation. Officers like V K Dubey or Ashish Dwivedi were not able to contain their happiness, sources said.
All because of his simple-nature, the CE had several sympathizers beyond NCUI as well. It is reliably learnt that several Ministerial staff and political honchos had lobbied with the NCUI President for his continuation. People were also relieved that a few unscrupulous elements active in grabbing the top job could not succeed in their machinations.
It bears recall that N Satyanarayan has been a signatory of cheques for the last 35-40 years, ever since he joined as CA in the NCUI. He is also the only signatory of Corpus Fund from the NCUI, the other being a representative of the Ministry.
As reported earlier, there was a lurking fear among some of the GC members that the Ministry may appoint another official as the second signatory if Satyanarayan leaves without preparations.
Many GC members had expressed Satyanarayan must continue till the new leadership gets a feel of the place. It would not be advisable for the apex body to have both President and CE who are new and do not know much about the organization, they said.
