Sunday was a lull for co-operators who had worked hard through the weeks to have favourable outcomes at the NCUI’s Governing Council elections. While for the majority of them, results are out, there are two seats where voting would take place today.
The fate of Dabas is to be decided today. He is fighting VVP Nair, a co-operator from Goa who is hardly known in Lutyens Delhi’s cooperative circles. Even the outgoing President Chandra Pal Singh is quoted saying “I don’t know who is Nair”, after Nair’s name cropped up during the election campaign.
NCUI also has its AGM today. Voting will go parallelly. The polling would be short-lived as not many voters have to exercise their franchise. Soon after the counting the results would be announced.
The newly elected board of the apex body would begin the process of electing the Chairman and perhaps two vice-Chairmen and the whole thing would be wound up by afternoon. The name of Dileep Sanghani as the new Chairman is final as co-operators across the board are willing to support him. Sanghani is everyone’s choice, be it the old team or the team of Sahakar Bharati which has been active in the elections as never before.
Indian Cooperative has gathered that Kerala’s Sivdasan Nair could be one of the Vice-Chairmen. The idea of retaining Bijender Singh as the Vice-Chairman is also doing the rounds.
Meanwhile, Sunday was used by co-operators to meet and mingle among themselves. A large number of co-operators met the would-be-chairman Dileep Sanghani and congratulated him in advance.
Simultaneously, there was a small assembly of co-operators at Biscomaun’s Guest House in Delhi, where co-operators were unwinding after a gruelling exercise of working out a consensus for the NCUI elections. Those present included Chandra Pal Singh, G H Amin and Sunil Singh.
Once the elections are over, Sanghani is likely to visit the IFFCO headquarters where a felicitation program is planned for him. It bears recall the Sanghani doubles as IFFCO’s Vice-Chairman.
