NCUI, the highest body of Indian cooperative movement organized a conference on the occasion of International Women’s Day in New Delhi on 8th March.
More than 100 women representatives of various cooperatives organizations attended the event, informs a press release issued by the organization.
In his address on the occasion, Dileep Sanghani, NCUI President underlined the importance of International Women’s Day, and assured women attendees of his full support for their economic activities.
Sanghani called upon women leaders to come up with new ideas and projects to be executed through cooperatives. Apart from generating employment, cooperatives ensure benefits are equitably shared among all members, he added.
Earlier, in a message, Sanghani said “This year the theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Women in Leadership: achieving an equal Future in a COVID – 19 World”, to highlight the pioneering role played by women and girls in shaping a more equal future and recovery from COVID – 19 pandemic.”
Women are heads of state or government in 22 countries and 24.9% of national parliamentarians are women but heartening fact that woman accounts for around 70% of the global health workforce, who have played pioneering role during the COVID – 19 crisis, he underlined.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Chairman, KRIBHCO, and ex-President, NCUI said women need to be strengthened and empowered through cooperatives which have a strong presence in all the villages of India.
Chandra Pal suggested 50 percent of the members in the primary level societies should be women. Several dignitaries including Mirai Chatterjee, Chairperson, Gujarat State Women’s SEWA Cooperative Federation spoke on the occasion.
Mrs. Chatterjee spoke highly of women who emerged as Corona warriors post-pandemic through the medium of cooperatives.
Dr. Bijender Singh, Vice President, NCUI proposed vote of thanks on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr V.K Dubey, Executive Director, NCUI who coordinated the conference had discussed the importance of the conference on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The conference coincided with the meeting of the newly constituted National Committee for Empowerment of Women.
