A thee-day Training Programme on Financial Management, Cost Accounting and Audit for the Secretaries of Primary Weavers’ Cooperative Societies (PWCS), Odisha was inaugurated by Minister for Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Snehangini Chhuria at Madhusudan Institute of Cooperative Management (MICM), Bhubaneswar.
Inaugurating the programme, the Minister said there were growing demands of the Handloom products of Odisha inside and outside the country and the PWCS are mainly responsible for it. She regretted at present only 430 PWCS are functional and many are under liquidation process.
The minister called upon the PWCS’s functionaries to motivate weavers to do their best to maintain the reputation of the Odisha handloom industry as also make them aware of the opportunities available for them. The minister also urged upon them to determine the reasons responsible for weavers’ poor financial conditions and take steps to remedy the situation.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts, Government of Odisha underlined the need of Financial Management, Cost Accounting and Audit in performance of the PWCS. She assured the participating secretaries that, Department of Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts will take all the steps to inform PWCS about all the opportunities that are available for their growth.
Director Textiles, while welcoming the guests called upon the Secretaries of the societies to take proper care in maintaining the quality of the products.
S.Ghosh Director, MICM, proposed a vote of thanks. The 3-day training programme was organized by MICM Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Directorate of Textiles, Government of Odisha.
