NABARD CGM comes calling to NCUI

National Cooperative Union of India organized a special lecture on “Sustaining Self-Help Groups and Promoting institution” which was inaugurated by NABARD Chief General Manager Dr G.R.Chintala at the NCUI Headquarters in New Delhi last week. Chintala was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the Participants, CGM said there were 80 Lakh Self-Help groups in India covering about 10 Crore women. He said more than 30 percent of women of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana are connected with Self-Help Groups.

NABARD CGM informed the delegates that” we are giving loans to farmers at concessional rate of 4 percent. NABARD’s main focus is to develop rural India, he said.

Micro finance movement of NABARD had changed the image of the rural sector and there were 800 Micro Finance institutions in India. In southern region this movement was developing fast, he added.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Dr Chintala said ” we are facing many challenges in running these groups. He underlined the fact that there are problems of leadership among women. He said cooperative banks are doing well in the country. The PACS have done a wonderful job in promoting the Self Help Groups.

Delegates from SAARC countries and officials of NCUI took part in the lecture. NCUI CEO Dr Dinesh, NCCE Director Vivek Dubey, Women Empowerment Committee Member Zeena were on the dais.
