Ambassador of Iceland to India Mr Gudni Bragason along with his team visited NCUI’s headquarters and lauded the NCUI Haat, recently launched by the apex co-op body. Mr Bragason visited NCUI on the invitation of Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, reads a press release from the NCUI.
The Ambassador appreciated the NCUI Haat Initiative and felt that it is an effective medium for empowering artisans and needy communities of rural India. He also admired the products made by SHGs in Delhi and Gurgaon using rejected clothes and other discarded materials. Bragason also purchased some items from here.
On the occasion, Bragason was introduced to the senior management team of NCUI at the office of the Chief Executive. After a round of introduction, Mr. Rahul Chongtham, Trade Analyst and associate to the Ambassador gave a brief introduction about the activities of the Embassy in India.
He also talked about the geothermal power projects currently being executed in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh and how it can boost the income of apple farmers by reducing the energy cost required for storage and processing of apple produce.
The Ambassador also talked about the latest technologies developed in Iceland for minimizing fish waste in the fishery industry and how there is an immense potential to adopt those technologies for the benefit of the fishermen community in India.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan welcomed the idea and said that NCUI will identify certain clusters of fishermen in Andaman and other coastal regions for this purpose and prepare a concept note in this regard too.
The meeting was extremely successful as both sides showed keen interest in exploring avenues of association in the near future, claimed the release.
