Newly elected director of Governing Council of NCUI and Chairman of Chattisgarh Rajya Sahkar Sangh Mr Lakhan Lal Sahu has advocated for awarding Padmashree award to farmers and to the people connected to farming. He argues that when film personalities and persons attached to arts and literature can get it, why not the farmers. He demanded debate on this in Parliament and expected peoples’ representatives to ponder over it.
Mr Sahu says that it was due to farmers that the country is self-reliant in food grains today. Green revolution and Operation flood were made possible by the tireless effort of the farmers. Now the country is preparing for second green revolution. We talk about farmers but shy away when it comes to according respect to them, felt Mr Sahu.
In the first meet of Governing Coucil of NCUI, Mr Sahu has put forward the this proposal. The President of NCUI, Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav supported Mr Sahu’s proposal strongly. It was passed by the NCUI governing council board and would be soon sent to Centre.
Among other demands of Mr Lakhan Lal Sahu, removal of income tax from cooperative sector figures prominently. It should be known to readers that in 2006 the net of income tax was widened to include cooperatives through an amendment.
