Senior officials of cooperative organizations of Ethiopia, Nepal and Bangladesh came for a study visit to NCUI recently to acquaint themselves with the growth of cooperatives in India, and the role of NCUI in promoting the cooperative movement.
“There were at least 13 senior officials from these countries” read a mail sent by NCUI. For this, a briefing session was held on 11th June, 2019 in which Chief Executive, NCUI and other senior officials of NCUI and NCCE were present, the mail noted.
N Satya Narayana, Chief Executive, NCUI while speaking on the occasion said that the cooperative movement has a vast network and reach with more than eight lakh cooperative societies, and cooperatives have played an important role in success of Green and White Revolution, and now are expected to play an important role in Blue Revolution.
The Chief Executive of NCUI further added that the seven principles of cooperatives are meant for peace and food security. Explaining that cooperatives are quite capable to play an important role in disaster risk management, he said that cooperatives as an effective business model can reduce disparities of income, and promote peace in the society.
Dr V.K, Dubey, Director, NCCE came up with a presentation highlighting the share of cooperatives in national economy, the role of NCUI in promoting cooperative education including the activities of NCCE, initiatives taken in popularizing cooperative education in schools, colleges and universities, etc.
The officials of these countries had earlier come to attend a two weeks training programme on ‘ Disaster Risk Management Mainstreaming and Cooperative Development’ organized by Laxman Rao Inamadar National Academy for Cooperative Research and Development, Gurgaon (LINAC).
