In a bid to synergise programs for promotion of export-oriented marine products, the cooperative lender NCDC and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) have signed an MoU at Kochi on Monday.
The MoU was signed by NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak and K S Srinivas, Chairman, MPEDA in the presence of eminent dignitaries.
Under the MoU, MPEDA and its societies and NCDC will jointly formulate programs to provide technical know-how to cooperatives to upscale infrastructure created for primary production and post-harvest management in the marine products export sector.
Soon after the signing of MoU, NCDC wrote on their social media, ” NCDC and MPEDA signed an MoU at Cochin on 22 February 2021 to support fisher-persons cooperatives”.
The MoU also envisages MPEDA and its societies and NCDC to work in close tandem to showcase to the Indian and global markets, products, technologies, processes, knowledge and services by stakeholders through a variety of modes as may be identified by them from time to time, media reports say.
Reacting to the MoU signed by the NCDC, one of its followers wrote, ” Gr8 initiative by NCDC certainly will help fishermen cooperatives”. ” Congratulations it is an historic event sir ncdc would like to grow further for development of cooperatives”, another wrote.
Later on MPEDA Cochin also posted details on social media. “MoU signed by @KSSrinivasIAS (Chairman, MPEDA) & Sundeep Kumar Nayak IAS, MD, NCDC to synergise programS for promotion of export-oriented marine products. Dr M Karthikeyan (Director, MPEDA) & K S Pradeep IFS, (Secretary, MPEDA) were present’.
NCDC was set up under an Act of Parliament in 1963 for promotion and development of cooperatives. Since 1963, it has extended around Rs.1.60 lakh crore as loans to cooperatives. MPEDA, under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is the nodal agency for promotion of the marine products exports sector through a range of activities.
