The agri cooperative-Nafed organized its 65th Annual General Meeting at the NCUI headquarters on Friday, where it was announced that in the 2021-22 FY, it earned a net profit to the tune of Rs 139.27 crore.
The meeting witnessed a huge crowd of delegates who had travelled from long distances to attend the meeting. They attended the meeting with full gusto and enthusiasm sharing information about problems they face in running societies.
Addressing the delegates, Nafed Chairman Bijendra Singh thanked one and all for their support in running the agri cooperative smoothly. We are working to strengthen the farmers of the country by procuring their crops at MSP with the support of the Central Government.
“Though, in 2021-22, due to some challenges we failed to earn higher profit in comparison to 2020-21 but we are sure that in a couple of years our profit would rise to more than Rs 300 crore. We are making a strategy to open new avenues for Nafed”, he said, receiving a thunderous applause.
While recalling the former days, Nafed Chairman said “We have seen the time when the agri cooperative was not able to give the dividend to its members societies due to financial crunch. But with the support of the Central Government, we came out of the red. For the year 2021-22, we proposed 15 percent, he added. In his speech, Singh also lauded the Board and Nafed employees for their tireless efforts to take Nafed to this
height. He mentioned the MD for his dynamism.
Nafed Managing Director Rajbir Singh Panwar placed the agenda for the approval of delegates, which were passed without hassle. In his address, the MD expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for Home & Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah for his esteemed presence in the National Conference of Cooperatives organised at Bhopal on 22nd August, 2022 and his valuable suggestions for boosting the business activities of NAFED and other cooperatives in the interest of the farmers.
Sharing a brief report on the business performance of NAFED, the MD informed that NAFED achieved a turnover of Rs 19,752.22 Crore with an operational profit of Rs 342.38 crore during F.Y. 2021-22. During the year, a quantity of 12.62 LMTs of Oilseeds and Pulses valuing Rs 7,072.21 Crore was procured under PSS, providing benefit of the scheme to around 15 lakh farmers.
He also informed that NAFED supplied 6.05 LMTs of processed Pulses to the Defence Forces and States for distribution under ICDS, MDM, PDS and other schemes. Further, pulses, edible oils, sugar, salt, groceries etc, valuing Rs 11,754.99 Crore were also supplied during the year. It is a matter of pride that NAFED expanded its horizons by exporting 1,25,333.60 MTs Indian Non-basmati rice valuing Rs 374.76 Crore to Bangladesh under the G2G arrangement.
Further humanitarian aid of 10,000 MTs of Rice and 200 MTs of Wheat worth Rs 32.18 Crore was provided to Myanmar on behalf of MEA, GoI.
The MD further stated that as National Implementing Agency under the Mission for Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), NAFED successfully registered 421 FPOs mobilizing around 1,08,000 farmers during FY 2021-22. NAFED is also implementing Organic Farming projects in various states, spread across 2000 ha. across the country.
The MD applauded the employees of NAFED for their dedicated service to the nation during the extremely
difficult time of Covid-19 pandemic. He said, at the same time, NAFED continued working for the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for eradicating the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis prevalent in livestock. It is heartening that the membership of NAFED has increased from 944 to 978, thereby increasing the shared capital from Rs 30.69 Crore to Rs 41.01 Crore, he added.
On this occasion, the Nafed Management felicitated Kribhco Chairman Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav for becoming the ICA-AP President and NCUI President Dileep Sanghani for becoming the Chairman of IFFCO. They were felicitated with gold coins, a shawl and bouquet.
While extending thanks to the Nafed management, Sanghani said Nafed is playing an important role in providing the remunerative price to the farmers for their crops. In his address, Yadav laid emphasis on fulfilling the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on achieving the ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’ mantra and suggested that the procurement of crops should be done through co-op societies, which not only empower the member societies but also gives a big boost to the cooperative movement.
Nafed Vice-Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh proposed a vote of thanks in his typical style which was a blend of humour and wit. Lauding Sanghani, Chandra Pal, Bijender and others, Sunil came to the govt nominee Ashok Thakur and said humorously that he is so fiery that he can set a thing aflame without a match stick.
