NAFED hauling Kejriwal over the coals

The government nominee on the board of NAFED Mr Ashok Thakur has suddenly become hot copy for the media. He was seen shuttling from one Television studio to another for the whole of Thursday. The issue is nothing but onion.

It is because of him and the NAFED that the BJP govt at the Centre is able to drag Delhi’s AAP government kicking and screaming on the issue of onion. The soaring price of onion has led to a war of words between the two governments and Thakur is proving very handy for the Modi government.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Ashok Thakur said way back in April anticipating a weak crop the NAFED had bought close to 2.5 thousand metric tones of onion for Delhi and Delhi alone and intimated the AAP govt about this. But it did not even respond to us.

Again in June we wrote a letter to the State govt informing their onion is lying with us which they can take to sell at the rate of Rs 25 to the people. Instead it chose another agency and is now selling it at Rs 40 a kg.

NAFED Govt nominee Ashok Thakur accused the state government of trying to help some businessmen in the process. Those who funded the party are perhaps being allowed to get their cuts, added Thakur. ”Or how can you explain that the NAFED is ready to give them onion which they can sell at Rs25 a kg, yet they are not listening,” he asked.
