During the inaugural function of Horti Expo 2021 event, Nafed Managing Director Sanjeev Chadha spoke at length about the plans of the agriculture cooperative for development of horticulture in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was inaugurated by Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor, J & K at the Police Auditorium in Gulshan Ground in the valley recently.
On the occasion, Chadha apprised the audience of the recent MoU signed between Nafed and Government of Jammu and Kashmir for the development of horticulture. Under this MoU, the NAFED will cover 5,500 hectares at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore in the next five years with a major focus on apple, walnut, cherry, pear and other significant horticulture produce.
“The NAFED will also set up 20 Farmer-Producer Organizations, one in each district, in the next three months. It will set up three cold storage clusters, one each in north and south Kashmir and one in Kathua, Jammu at a cost of Rs 500 crore, besides ensuring Geographical Indications tags (GI Tags) for all premium/niche horticulture produce, branding and marketing of fruit crops”, he added.

The expo aims to provide valuable information about the products & services related to horticulture production, post-harvest management and best practices. A huge number of farmers took part in the fair.
Speaking on the occasion the LG said, “The promotion of local produce and taking it to the global market is one of the key focus areas of the J&K government and it is making continuous efforts to increase the resources and market linkages to further strengthen the horticulture sector, report HT.
The UT government would continue striving hard to provide the best and advanced technologies to farmers as the welfare of the farmer community and increasing their income manifold is its priority.
