Bijender met the Union Agricultural and Cooperation Minister Radhamohan Singh recently to argue the case of Nafed. Vishal Singh, the son of late Ajit Singh and one of the directors of Nafed also accompanied him. It is said Vishal and the Minister hail from the same state, and this territorial affinity Bijandender Singh tried to capitalize on.
Nafed’s state of affairs continues to be miserable. Though it is in the process of selling off several of its real estates including its majestic Ashram office in Delhi, it is still falling short of the target, informed a source to Indian Cooperative. Banks have shown some leniency but still it cannot be saved unless government chips in, he said.
Indian Cooperative has learnt that though the Minister granted time to the Nafed Chairman he is not willing to support the agri-cooperative owing to a host of factors including the issue of cooperative leadership.
Bijender Singh on his part is confident that the present government would help the Nafed overcome the financial mess created in the wake of past tie-up losses.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Bijender Singh said that in the UPA govt we could not go beyond the agricultural Minister but this time we are determined to approach the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. It is worth mentioning that Mr Singh is a Congressman who represented the Nagloi assembly seat in Delhi in the last term.
Nafed once upon a time was the one of the gems of Indian Co-operative Movt. From our childhood we used to enjoy many agricultural processed products under the brand name Nafed. Who casted an evil eye on it is prime responsibility of national leadership to find out and take corrective as well as punitive actions. But leaving such a great organisation into lurch is also not advisable or appreciable. Despite his affiliation to an opposition Party , We wish Dr Bijendra Singh all the best in his endeavor to convince present Govt to bail it out. Past mistakes can be corrcetd but once a reputed organisation fails to survive it will be loss of the entire country and not just of particular Individual or a political party. Co-operatives have no borderlines.

I tam unable to understand the rationale of phrases like
“Govt to bail it out”
“the present government would help the Nafed overcome the financial mess created in the wake of past tie-up losses”
‘Vishal and the Minister hail from the same statein the UPA govt we could not go beyond the agricultural Minister but this time we are determined to approach the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.’
On one hand India wants cooperatives to insulate from political intervention and on the other we hear like this. Why not bring the people to books who took NAFED to this mess. Was it the Polity of relevant time? Will any one ask “Mr Singh who represented the Nagloi assembly seat in Delhi in the last term for UPA (cONGRESS) TO HELP DIG THIS OUT?
SXTRACTS FROM Congress exploited co-op for self-gain: BJP

BJP leaders were addressing a meeting held at Lokshkti Bhawan in Ujjain.
The Congressmen had cynically exploited cooperatives for their self-aggrandizement and given their endless corrupt activities they would never be able to stage a comeback on the cooperative scene, the BJP leaders asserted.
A large number of BJP leaders including Ramakant Bhargava, Rajesh Dagor, Kishan Singh Bhatol and others addressed the meeting.
BIJENDER AND VISHAL NEED TO FACE THESE OBSERVATIONS BEFORE expectimg PM AND AGRI MINISTER to help them onbehalf of the Government. If NAFED can not survive without Government “close it down” That is better than going to Government. “Why Government?”
I agree with Mr Ishwar Naik. It is better to close down the NAFED. It had mis-utilized L/C limit in thousands crores of rupees a couple of years ago that was extended by Government for agricultural purposes when Vishal’s father was in the helm of affairs. They dishonestly imported iron ore and other non agricultural products under tie-up arrangement which resulted in huge losses, say Rs. 3200 crores. The parties involved in this business became defaulters and swindled exchequer’s funds in connivance with NAFED’s Officials. Even NAFED extended funding of Rs.100 crores to a private party at Nashik against pledging of HUSSAIN’s paintings.
Vishal Singh, also a Vice Chairman of NCCF, recently locked horns with Ministry of Consumer Affairs and dragged them before Delhi High Court (case no WP-Civil 3259 of 2014) when the NCCF was superseded by Ministry on 16.05.2014, because of the mismanagement headed by its Chairman – Virendra Singh. Fighting with Central Govt. At the same time taking a begging bowl before Govt for NAFED’s rehabilitation. Something strange. Government should act fast in the larger perceptive rather than looking at the crocodile tears of NAFED.
