Tamil Nadu CM re-asserts NCUI demand

cm tamil naduThe Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has re-asserted what National Cooperative Union of India has been  saying practically in its every cooperative function. The newly appointed CM had batted for the PACS in a big way.

He has called on the center to involve primary agriculture cooperative societies in the direct delivery of subsidy on cooking gas cylinders. He has argued that the people will find it difficult to access big nationalized banks in rural areas.

The chief minister also suggested leveraging urban cooperative banks in the delivery of subsidy in urban areas. The chief minister has made these suggestions in a letter sent recently to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Even in the last function of NCUI in Delhi where Radha Mohan Singh, the Union Agriculture Minister participated, NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav said that the Centre’s various schemes should be routed through co-operatives.

Chandra Pal emphasized on the robust network of PACS in each state and exhorted the Minister to think on these lines. There are close to 6 lakhs cooperatives with a member of roughly one-fourth of India.

Only time can tell if the Prime Minister Modi listens and responds to the Chief Minister of one of the important states as NCUI’s request has fallen on deaf ears so far.
