The next chairman of NCCF is to be decided today. Two camps- eager to fight it out are raring to go while the cooperative leaders like Dr Chandra Pal Yadavs are trying their best to strike a compromise formula.
Four directors have been elected –two in each camp. If Dr Bijendra Singh of Nafed is with Vishal , Ambika Singh from Varanasi is said to be with Virendra Singh. Virendra Singh is with NCP, a political party headed by powerful maratha man Sharad Yadav. Will he pitch in on behalf of Virendra Singh? Virendra Singh himself vehementally denies saying that Sharadji does not involve himself on such issues. But his adversaries might be counting this as his strength.
Vishal Singh also comes from a family of cooperators. Leave aside his late father Ajit Singh who was Chairman of Nafed, his grand father Tapeshwer Singh too was a giant cooperator of his time. So the boy is chip off the old block and capable of pulling off a coup.
Peacemakers, according to information available with Indian cooperatives have tried to revolve the power between the two for half of the tenure. But who will get the first half is the big question. There is also lurking fear in the mind of each that new cooperative amendment freezing the tenure may also come in the way of transfer of power. The one who begins may turn out to be the one who ends.
