Some unscrupulous elements have written unsavoury comments about ICA Delhi office employee Mrs Savitri Singh in a story titled “ICA: Chan Ho Choi on way out?”. Indian Cooperative condemns such personal attack in the strongest possible words and warns such elements that a platform meant for healthy criticism should not be reduced to character assassination.
Cyber crime is no doubt on rise and there are agencies which can easily zero in on the culprits. Indian Cooperative would indeed seek such help if the need arises. Earlier, we cooperated with Bhopal IG (Cyber Crime) to track one such diseased commentator.
In a SMS text an anguished Savitri Singh wrote “Dear Editor, I feel insulted and violated by the comment posted on your website. I hope that your website should not be misused like this in future by miscreants”.
Cooperative is a huge sector in India but has no exposure to the outside world. There are millions of people associated with it who earlier did not find any platform to vent their ire. Indian Cooperative was conceived to fill up this gap. But reducing this to character-assassination is something we never imagined.
The scope of Indian Cooperative has widened over the years with readers commenting on some old stories for which the desk cannot keep a track. We deliberately planned to keep it an open platform by allowing free exchange. Though we introduced a software to filter out obscene comments yet still some are over-looked.
With frayed nerves, which are understandable, Savitri Singh phoned Indian Cooperative and expressed her anguish. Indian Cooperative assured her of all help in the investigation should she seek one. But it also made it clear that it has disclaimer wherein the comments are responsibilities of the commentators.
Indian Cooperative is not run by fly-by-nights journalists. Hard-boiled professionals who were part of mainstream media and who have braved many a battle in past are involved in this venture. We do the job fearlessly and we observe the highest moralities and standards of conduct.
