Anthiyur Cooperative Marketing Society does brisk business
Prices of cotton firmed up in the auction held in two major centres in the district of Erode despite heavy arrivals during the week.
Bhoodapady Regulated Marketing Committee and Anthiyur Cooperative Marketing Society, which cater to buyers from Salem, Tirupur, Sathyamangalam, Puliampatty and Coimbatore, received increased arrivals in the weekly auctions.
Bt Cotton variety was sold in the range of Rs 3,600 to Rs 4,000 per quintal while Surabi variety fetches Rs 4,050 to Rs 4,570 in the auction conducted by the Anthiyur society, an
increase of Rs 100 per quintal over the previous week rates, market officials said.
Arrival of cotton increased to 8,000 bags (each 35 kg) against 2,000 bags in the last week, they said adding Rs 85 lakh worth cotton was auctioned.
In the Bhoodapady Regulated Marketing Committee, Bt cotton was sold at Rs 3,900 to Rs 4,300 and Surabi at Rs 4,200 to Rs 4,800 per quintal.
Superintendent of the market K. Antony Joseph Lurdhuraj said Rs 1.32 crore worth cotton were sold in the Bhoodapady Regulated Marketing Committee.
