Madras High Court has found the head of the Govt telecommunication employees’ cooperative society in contempt of court for not reinstating V. Thirulokachandar as Secretary of the society as ordered by the court. The head of the cooperative will spend a period of time in jail and pay a fine of Rs 2000.
The matter dates back to the year 2005 when V Thirulokchandar was removed from his position following a conviction by a lower court. But the High Court in its interim order in a writ petition had ordered his reinstatement. The cooperative society did not do what the High Court had ordered them to do.
In 2011 Thirulokachandar’s suspension was quashed by the High Court and the society’s appeal against the order was rejected by both the division bench of the High Court and the Supreme Court. But the society did not take Thirulokachandar back into his original position and this forced him to file the contempt proceedings against the society.
