A cooperative society getting into power generation is news. Of several energy projects cleared in Sikkim, one at Dalapchand has been given to a cooperative society.
The projects are called Micro Hydel Power Project (MHPP) and it entails producing electricity on a modest scale using the natural flow of water.
Sources say the project is aimed at making the mountainous state into the country’s model state in micro power generation.
A cooperative society being given the job of completing a power generation project rings unconventional and has a newsworthiness all its own.
Such Micro Hydel Projects are mostly located in the North Eastern part of the country and if the projects planned turn out to be successful, then the model will be initiated in the other districts of the state as well.
