Like the rest of the country, Rajasthan is being lashed by a shortage of onions. As the problem seems beyond solution in the near future, cooperative stores in the state have been pressed into service selling onions to people at reduced prices.
A top ranking official of the state govt said as long as the shortage of onions continues cooperative stores will be on the job selling the scarce commodity.
Meanwhile, agri-cooperative NAFED has begun the process of tendering to import of onion from foreign countries including Pakistan and Iran.
Earlier, Delhi govt put Nafed at the vanguard of efforts to pull itself out of the onion crisis.
Bijender Singh, Chairman of Nafed said that a huge network of onion- laden trucks are criss-crossing the streets of Delhi wiping tears of people caused by spiraling onion prices.
