The Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan is going to inaugurate the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) at Chavara near Kollam beach in Kerala which is a joint effort of the state govt and the labour co-op major Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society Ltd. (ULCCS) today on July 23.
Launching seven courses from today IIIC aims to offer hands on knowledge at three levels beginning matriculation and going up to B Tech and M Tech, said MD of ULCC S Shaju to this correspondent when he came to Delhi last week to invite cooperators for the launch of the first public-private-cooperative partnership (PPCL) specimen in the country.
Built and operated by ULCC, IIIC aims to skill those who have leant the academics but have little practical or on-the-job knowledge. “There are engineers in our country who have graduated from any number of mushrooming engineering colleges but sadly have no practical knowledge; IIIC aims to skill them”, said Kishor accompanying Shaju on his Delhi trip.
Interestingly, speaking on the occasion of the Vaikunth Bhai Mehta Memorial Lecture organized by National Cooperative Union of India in Delhi recently M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President of India called for forging public-private-cooperative partnership as a viable model of development. “ULCC has precisely done this”, underlined Shaju.
“There will be courses at technician, supervisory and managerial levels for those who have completed SSLC, Plus Two, ITI, diploma, 
ULCC Managing Director also claimed that the IIIC would guarantee 60 per cent campus placement as those partnering with ULCC in this venture are the players of today’s Industry. National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad; Glasgow Kelvin College, the U.K.; University West of Scotland; British Council; Cambridge English; Confederation of Indian Industry; CREDAI; and QMA, are some of the names associated with IIIC.
Dr T.P. Sethumadhavan will be the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institute, said Shaju detailing multiple contributions of the acting Vice-Chancellor soon to be in the field of technical education. Dr Sethumadhavan was the VC of the Veterinary institute of Kerala, he added.
Our Chairman fervently wants all the cooperatives of the country to send their manpower for skill-development at the centre, said the duo of Shaju and Kishore. “Since your cooperative portal is read by cooperators across the nation we would like to issue an appeal to them”, they added.
Indian Cooperative indeed feels that it is a matter of satisfaction that one of us has come up with a world class training institute and cooperators must make advantage of it.
