KRIBHCO election is drawing close to an uneventful end. There is uncertainty on one seat alone. The constituency number 4 is going to have election. There are two candidates from Gujarat and one from Maharashtra. All efforts to broker consensus have failed so far and this constituency looked set to give us some jing of true election.
Earlier, all the eight Directors were elected uncontested as the cooperative biggies balanced the distribution of powers and perks among the contestants in a manner that satisfied every body. It is a different matter though that the small cooperative societies and their delegates will have no chance to vote. But who cares for them?
KRIBHCO has about 6500 members and participating in a direct election, according to KRIBHCO sources is a difficult proposition. As a result these members elect delegates which would be about 500 in numbers. These delegates cast their votes to elect the Board Members.
The new board will be constituted after the election on the 20th May. Soon after the election of the Directors, a Chairman amidst the elected Directors will be elected. Some uncertainty about choice of Chairman continues as 3-4 govt nominees will also have voting rights. Sometimes the government does arm twist to make its candidate the Chairman. But such cases are exception than rule.
