Besides IFFCO and GCMMF, World Cooperative Monitor report 2018 published by ICA has also found India’s second largest fertilizer cooperative Kribhco standing at 6th rank- a matter of pride for the country’s cooperative movement.
The list shows Kribhco is standing at 6th position, three ranks below GCMMF which is popularly known by the brand name of Amul. Nonghyup, Zen-Noh and Copersucar are three co-ops which stand between GCMMF and Kribhco. These are from the Agriculture and Food Industry category of the Monitor Report.
Reacting to the news Kribhco Chairman Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav said to Indian Cooperative, “We are happy to note that Kribhco occupies a place of pride among world cooperatives; to be in top 10 is no mean achievement, he added.
Chandra Pal who also is the President of apex body NCUI which spearheads co-op movement in the country congratulated both IFFCO and Amul on their achievements. “We have always claimed India has a robust co-operative movement”, he sounded self-congratulatory.
It bears recall that the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse) have presented the seventh annual World Cooperative Monitor report on Wednesday morning (Indian Time).
This publication reports on the world’s largest cooperative and mutual organisations, providing rankings of the Top 300.
In the Top 300 ranking based on turnover IFFCO, GCMMF, Nonghyup, Zen-Noh, Copersucar and Kribhco stand from first to sixth positions respectively. The calculation is based on the ratio of turnover over gross domestic product (GDP) per capita ranking, reintroduced this year, says the Report.
