It was a big day for the cooperative giant IFFCO when its offices located in all parts of the country and its member societies counting more than 30 thousand celebrated the World Soil Day on 5th December and illuminated farmers on the perils of excessive use of urea.
Leading the campaign from front IFFCO MD Dr US Awasthi who has a large number of followers on social media tweeted a series of one-liners underlining his pledge for soil conservation. He even retweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweet on the issue.
One of Awasthi’s tweets read “Reduce #Urea usage in our #Soil. On #WorldSoilDay let’s take a pledge to educate our #Farmer.”
He retweeted Narendra Modi’s words ”On World Soil Day we reaffirm our commitment to making our soil healthier. When soil is in good health, our farmers get more wealth.” Another one from PM read” Government’s Soil Heath Card is an endeavour to improve the health of the soil & provide guidance to our farmers on soil related issues.”
Hitting at the root cause responsible for farmers’ excessive urea usage IFFCO MD tweeted “1Kg salt cost Rs 18 & 1Kg of #Urea Rs 5. Open invitation 2use excessive #Urea in #Soil.
In the next tweet he suggests the solution “ #Urea price increase & rationalization will boost the #Soil fertility &
Meanwhile, moving in tandem with the MD, IFFCO PR and its Directors including Prem Chandra Munshi kept details of awareness campaign being taken up by cooperative units across the country. Soil conservation awareness campaigns were reported from several states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Assam, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha and others.
Union Agriculture Minister who happened to be in Ranchi on the day found time to visit IFFCO stalls prompting the MD to tweet “@RadhamohanBJP Ji, Union Agri Min visited #IFFCO Stall on #World Soil Day in #Soil Mela at Birsa Agriculture Uni #Ranchi.”
