With India migrating from villages to towns increasingly, urban farming is the latest fad and IFFCO is gearing up to play a major role in it. Caught in concrete and cement it is every urbanite wish to get a whiff of fresh air from his balcony plants.
IFFCO’s Bazar, one of the several subsidiaries of co-operative titan IFFCO has recently launched Magic Soil along with several other stuffs in attractive packages to the growing needs of city dwellers. This soil indeed acts like magic and is a one-stop solution for all-soil, nutrients and fertilizers, claimed an IFFCO official.
The Magic Soil is a premixed nutritious diet-soil for all kinds of plants. “We can use the same for the plants kept in pots in your kitchen garden or in your balcony if you live in a high-rise building, said the official.
Getting this soil is also quite easy, he explained saying one only has to visit— iffcobazar.in. One gets several other home garden products including seeds, organic plant growth promoters and all kinds of specialised fertilisers from this site.

IFFCO Tech Head A K Gupta has also posted some videos wherein city dwellers are seen using the soil to their balcony plants.
In several of his tweets in recent times IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi lauded the role extensive plantation can play in the city’s life. Congestion, construction and automobile emissions are some of the factors responsible for bringing down the quality of city life and massive plantation is its answer, Awasthi says.
“We should adopt this new technique of Urban agriculture. It can transform our lives in cities. This can provide fresh food, a clean environment, remove stress, create job opportunities, will make things better around us and many more. Let’s grow a greener city”, reads one of the tweets of the IFFCO MD.
In another tweet Awasthi writes” Let’s grow more trees in our cities around us as greening our cities can improve our well-being and make cities cleaner with more fresh air and happier places to live. All #IFFCO buildings are now #green buildings. Let’s grow at least one tree around us. #sustainability”.
