The BJP’s ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ (Contact for Support) campaign knocked at the cooperative door when one of its senior Ministers and a cooperator in his own right Suresh Prabhu met one of the cooperative stalwarts Dr U S Awasthi last week.
Prabhu briefed Awasthi about the achievements of the present govt in the last 48 months. Yogendra Kumar, Marketing Director of IFFCO and a close Awasthi aide was also present in the meeting.
Happy with the outcome of the meeting, Prabhu later tweeted “Met Dr. U.S. Awasthi, MD & CEO of IFFCO under #SamparkForSamarthan initiative. Shared with him the success story of our Govt. in #48MonthsofTransformingIndia.”
The campaign is aimed at meeting one lakh people who are eminent in their fields and is being spearheaded by BJP functionaries including chief ministers and union ministers.
IFFCO MD Awasthi had been openly supporting several steps taken by this govt such as digitalization, neem-coated urea and switch to bio-fertilizer.
It bears recall that the campaign launched by party president Amit Shah on May 29 to mark four years of the Narendra Modi government had Shah meeting former Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag on the first day. The campaign is aimed at winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Others whom Shah met include former cricketer Kapil Dev, ex-Lok Sabha secretary general Subhash C Kashyap, former CJI RC Lahoti, Baba Ramdev, among others.
Though the campaign seeks to garner support it is also intended to get feedback about the working of the govt from eminent citizens.
“Though the govt has not yet conferred the Padma Award on IFFCO MD so far, it is a matter of satisfaction that he is at least seen as an eminent citizen whose views matter”, quipped a cooperator connected to IFFCO soon after the meeting.
