IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi has raised the issue of computerization of cooperatives and has called for extensive use of computers in carrying out the affairs of cooperatives.
Indian Cooperative hails it as a timely move by the IFFCO MD as majority of cooperative offices seems to belong to eighteenth century where bundles of dog-eared files move from one table to another at snail’s pace.
Battling from the front Dr Awasthi tweeted: #iffco has already given computerised programme to UP PCF on it’s own cost . We want to support computerisation in cooperatives.”
Cooperative seminars taking place every other day are never tired of boasting of fighting challenges arising out of globalization. But they miss out on the fundamental tool of development. You can grow only when you are saddled with the latest tool of development, felt an academician Dr Yogendra Tiwary dedicated to the studies of cooperatives.
A cursory glance at offices of different national cooperative federations in Delhi would convince one the necessity of ushering in an era of computers in cooperatives. MDs’ desks are especially a sight worth watching with files threatening to drown the officers.
Even the desk of apex cooperative body NCUI’s Chief Executive has such tall stakes of files on his table that it becomes daunting for one to find out Dr Dinesh, the Chief Executive. All the files move physically and there is no mailing system which could cut time, labour and expenses.
What would one find in terms of computerization of cooperative if one goes beyond Delhi is not hard to imagine. There is an urgent need that big brothers of cooperatives should start helping out their poor cousins and help the sector to be world-class in terms of technology.
It may not be out place to mention here that the IFFCO MD’s desk is the cleanest one this correspondent has found so far. But many others at the same IFFCO headquarters fail to follow in the footsteps of MD as is clear from the littered tables they so boastfully preside over.
