Ever since IFFCO’s MD Dr. U.S.Awasthi has advanced the idea of converting cities where the IFFCO plants are located into smart cities, the cooperative giant has got galvanized into action.
The new government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been seized of the issue as is evident from its 2015-16 budget vowing to convert 100 cities into smart ones soon.
Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted Sunday “I urge #IFFCO unit heads & Sr ED (t) to convert their township to Smart Township.”
Awasthi’s tweet received phenomenal response as his followers-mostly IFFCO staff welcomed the idea and pledged to contribute their bit for the noble cause.
Some even felt confident that IFFCO would take lesser time than would the GOI as reflected in one of the tweets “ @drusawasthi What a Visionary Idea Dr Awasthi Sir. I think we will take less time than GOI.”
Another one tweeted “ Respected Sir, this is a great thought. Let’s make our townships smart & set an example to the Govt.”.
The participants also began to offer their ideas on how to go about this; one of them suggested bio-degradable waste generated by townships and guest houses could be used to produce cooking gas.
An IFFCO employee from Aonla Mrs Seema Gaur tweeted Awasthi back assuring him that Aonla unit has already started work by providing wi-fi in Public buildings and senior officers’ residence in the Township.
Earlier, several IFFCO units hitched themselves to Swatchch Bharat campaign when IFFCO MD gave a clarion call. “Co-operatives could beat corporates and catch the public attention by aligning themselves with the noble causes. The cooperative movement could cruise at full throttle only if it stands for worthy causes”, quipped a senior cooperator commenting on the latest move by the IFFCO.
