IYC 2025: Amidst building excitement, Awasthi invites cooperators worldwide

The IFFCO Managing Director has issued a video invitation to cooperators from across the world to participate in the upcoming mega global cooperative event, the 2025 United Nations International Year of Cooperatives.

The event is scheduled to take place for the first time in India, with IFFCO, the leading fertilizer cooperative, playing host along with other co-ops in the country. Planned to be held at Bharat Mandapam, where the G20 meeting took place, the IYC 2025 aims to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the mega co-op show.

In his video message, Dr. Awasthi says, “On behalf of IFFCO and more than 36,000 cooperative societies of IFFCO, I welcome cooperators across the world to join us for the Global Cooperative Conference to celebrate how cooperatives build prosperity for all and kick off the 2025 United Nations International Year of Cooperatives!”

He further added, “IFFCO and Indian cooperatives will share their experiences and views for India’s vision of #SahkarSeSamriddhi, and how cooperatives can bring prosperity to the farmers, cooperators, and the country.”

It is worth recalling that the soft-launch event for the 2025 UN International Year of Cooperatives kicked off with full enthusiasm at the UN Headquarters in New York last week. The event was attended by the who’s who of the international cooperative movement.

From ICA President Ariel Guarco to ICA-AP President Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav to UN representatives and others, many were there to celebrate the soft-launch event. IFFCO’s Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani, Nafed Director Bijendra Singh, NCUI CE Sudhir Mahajan, Savitri Singh, IFFCO’s Santosh Shukhla, and others were present from India.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by ICA and IFFCO in the presence of many dignitaries for holding the General Assembly & ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024, as well as for the launch of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 in New Delhi, India on Sunday.

“A moment of pride for India as it’s the first time the ICA is holding its General Assembly in India,” Awasthi had tweeted. The Indian Cooperative had earlier reported that IFFCO is going to host the mega global cooperative event, and that the event is going to take place in Delhi.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative, ICA AP President and the highest ICA representative based in Delhi, Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, said that the Prime Minister of India has been requested to inaugurate the event.

The Committee formed for coordinated initiatives for such a large-scale event is working the nitty gritty of the event. The booking of the Bharat Mandapam has already been done.

The Indian team expects participation of more than 1,500 guests in the event. About 700 foreign cooperators from around 100 countries will attend the ICA General Assembly.

Top cooperators drawn from several fields in which cooperatives are active will also attend the event. It is worth recalling that cooperatives play a crucial role in dairy, fertilizer, sugar, rural and urban credits, housing, and many more.
