It is an election season at IFFCO. Member societies are sending the details of their societies to the cooperative behemoth as the election to the delegates are underway in right earnest.
Being the largest cooperative federation with more than 40 thousand member societies attached to it, the task is gigantic, confessed the chief election officer Nirmal Kumar to the Indian Cooperative.
More than 1000 delegates are to be elected. There are 70 area offices spread across India where the actions are taking place, informed Mr Kumar.
Delegates’ election would be completed by February and March and our head office at N Delhi is busy these days answering the various queries emanating from the field, added Nirmal Kumar.
IFFCO set its election process in motion beginning 1st of December and would conclude before May 17th 2014.
Earlier, IFFCO set up a Sub-committee comprising of board members to deliberate on the election process as well as suggest ways of bringing in reforms to conform with the 97th CAA.
The Committee recommended that all the directors should be elected. Earlier, about 10 Directors used to be nominated by the Federations. The practice would be done away with this time round.
Also the rights of the member whose membership spans less than one year were modified. The Committee has recommended that such persons will have voting rights but they cannot contest elections for any position.
After 60 days notice the process for election to the Directors from among the delegates would start. The process should be completed by May 17th.
Another significant recommendation of the Sub-committee is disallowing co-opted directors from participating in the election of office bearers such as Chairman or Vice-Chairman.
R D Agrawal, senior Advocate in the Supreme Court has been chosen as the Returning Officer.
The next AGM scheduled for May will have new Directors as it would follow soon after the election to the Directors and election of the Chairman from amongst them.
