Among the many ventures belonging to the IFFCO; IKSL stands a cut above. Even the US President Barack Obama was floored by this novel idea as he had said ‘It is a great idea. Do it across the world, keep it up”. Indian Cooperative captured the story by making a famous headline “ IFFCO Kisan Sanchar steals Obama’s heart”.
Besides scores of domestic awards, IKSL has the distinction of bagging the Coffey International Award for its unique mobile service initiative empowering farmers. The UK-based Coffey International is a leading global professional services consultancy.
IKSL, a joint-venture between IFFCO and telecom companies Bharti Airtel and Star Mobitel, initiated ‘M-Powering Farmers Mobile Phone Service’ to help farming become more productive, profitable and sustainable providing easier access to agricultural information via mobile phones.
IKSL has a subscriber base comprehending millions of farmers. While agriculture is a major occupation in India, a lack of agri-information has made it difficult for farmers to make informed decisions regarding crop choice, sowing methods, disposal of products and many more things resulting in low productivity and profitability.
