The largest farmers cooperative giant IFFCO supported the Digital India Project, a pet scheme of the Narendra Modi government, aiming to connect all gram panchayats by broadband internet, promote e-governance and transform India into a knowledge economy.
Welcoming Digital India launched by prime minister Narendra Modi, IFFCO MD Dr. U S Awasthi said it would usher in an unprecedented transformation allowing India to leapfrog from a developing country to a high technological society.
Congratulating the PM he tweeted” #IFFCO Congratulate #PM @narendramodi for initiating special journey of #DigitalIndia #Digital #tech can change the face of #Rural #India.”

Readers would recall that IFFCO delegates were startled to find their phone receiving SMSs of dividends in the last AGM held in May, even as the meeting was still in progress, as reported extensively by the Indian Cooperative. Awasthi tweeted “ #IFFCO transferred dividend 2 its 34000 #Cooperatives #Digitally, special online portal 4 dem, #graamsanjevani 4 #Rural #India #DigitalIndia.”
It had also set up Twitter stalls to sensitize farmers with this new medium of communication. They were also encouraged to communicate directly to the MD or Board members.
