Cooperative giant IFFCO once again proved itself as a cooperative body with a difference when it came to reducing fertilizer prices.
Government of India is perturbed that fertilizer companies are not following global cue in the matter of price-reduction.
In an official order issued to fertiliser companies, the govt of India has asked them to inform farmers of reduction in prices of fertilisers through sustained advertisement campaigns.
The govt has learnt that the companies are not selling fertilisers at reduced prices, fall in global prices notwithstanding. The govt had expected the companies to supply DAP and Potash fertilisers at concessional rates to farmers.
As per the official order, the ministry of fertiliser has demanded on pain of action clippings of advertisements from the companies within 10 days.
The order has made a particular mention of the fact that the fertiliser companies have not kept their promise to use all possible means of communication to educate farmers about fall in fertiliser prices.
It is worth mentioning that the govt freed fertilisers from control in 2010. Iffco is the only fertiliser company that has effected appropriate reductions in fertiliser prices as a result of fall in the global prices without waiting for any govt circular.
