The largest sulphuric acid plant of the world was inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee and King of Jordan King Abdullah on Saturday in the town of Eshidiya, 325 kms from Jordan’s capital city of Amman.
A joint venture between IFFCO and JPMC the foundation stone for JIFCO had been laid by King Abdullah in 2009 and now it has gone operational with the IFFCO MD claiming that in the first year of commissioning JIFCO should operate above 80% capacity.

Awasthi also tweeted to inform that Phosphoric acid produced at the plant will be exported to Kandla port in Gujarat from Jordan’s Aqaba port, which is close to the location of the plant. The plant will meet the requirements of India’s agricultural sector in view of a meager availability of phosphates in India.

The project is worth $860 million and is billed as the world’s biggest phosphoric acid complex. ET sources add ”International Finance Corporation (IFC) has given a loan of $335 million to the project in which IFFCO has a 52 per cent stake. The two leaders inaugurated the plant using remote buttons, with the project and workers visible on a large screen at the Al Husseinieh Palace.”
IFFCO has deputed a team of experienced engineers and technicians from its plants in India to support JIFCO and its plant operations, tweeted Awasthi.
