In the face of abrupt climatic changes that have begun to happen more frequently IFFCO MD Dr US Awasthi has stressed on the need to transform agricultural system.
”Transforming our agriculture system in order to achieve food sustainability is the chief challenge beckoning us at this time of history and there is an urgent need to reorient ourselves through techniques like save the soil”, said Dr Awasthi.
MD’s tweet read ”It’s time to revisit, transform our #agriculture system & need to Increase resilience in food system in face of #climate change. #Save The Soil”.
The weather-related phenomena such as heavy downpours followed by floods, droughts, storms, heat and cold waves, and wild fires have been making headline news over the past several years.
One of the main impacts anticipated from climate change is an increase in the intensity, frequency or duration of extreme events. Most such events have one or more components that are not related to climate change, warn scientists.
Besides the save the soil, IFFCO has launched several projects such as use of bio-fertilzer, afforestration, soil testing, etc to make farmers aware of the impending challenges and prepare for them.
