IFFCO MD visits remote areas of West Bengal

IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi is on a whirlwind tour of West Bengal- meeting farmers and cooperators across the board. He met Mr K N Behera, the MD of BENFED in Kolkata in a bid to do something jointly for the farmers of the state.

Conveying this Dr Awasthi tweeted “In #BENFED # Kolkata office with MD # KNBehera. Discussed mutual interest for benefit of #Farmers  # IFFCO & #BENFED.”

Later he went deeper in the state to the Bagbagan Cooperative Society in the Gadkhali village and mingled with farmers freely. He is trying to bring awareness among farmers on the crucial issues of farming. Farmers and mostly women among them–posed happily with him in the photographs which were later posted on twitter by the media-savvy MD.

On this occasion he also reminded his followers on Twitter of the great job of plantation undertaken by the IFFCO in the past in order to save the mangroves. Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted ” During cyclone # Aaliyah #Sunderban lost massive #mangroves #IFFCO planted like this 40k mangrove majority survived.”

But he did not forget to remind farmers to reduce their dependence on chemical fertilizers. Dr. U S Awasthi (@drusawasthi) tweeted “ Interacted with members of #Bagbagan coop in #Sunderban encouraged them for sustainable agriculture 90% women farmers.”

Of let the MD of the largest farmers’ cooperative Dr Awasthi has been making efforts to save the soil from the dangerous erosion caused by the excessive use of chemical fertilizers. He has been touring areas after areas to bring about this awareness in the farming communities.
